He studied with Mercè Capsir and furthered his studies in Milan. He debuted at the Gran Teatre del Liceu singing the role of Chevalier des Grieux in Manon (1946). He specialized in belcanto and achieved great success at the Glynenbourne Festival singing Donizetti and Rossini, whose La Cenerentola he also recorded. With the exception of a few sporadic performances, he mostly developed his career outside Catalonia. He also specialized in singing Cimarosa and Paisiello and, in the 1960s, he expanded his repertoire to Verdi and Puccini.
