Baritone of Andalusian origin that established himself in Catalonia in the 1920s. He studied in Madrid and Milan, and debuted at the Gran Teatro de Madrid as Germont in Verdi’s La Traviata. Between 1920 and 1922 he spent a short time in Italy and toured America. After his return to Barcelona in 1923, he debuted at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. With the support of the businessman Josep Gibert, he left the operatic world and became probably the most popular baritone of zarzuela of all time. He premiered important titles of this genre, such as La parranda by Francisco Alonso or La tabernera del puerto by Pablo Sorozábal. From the 1940s onwards, he devoted himself to singing recitals and performed in symphonic and oratorio concerts. He retired in 1957.
