He studied with Morera, who he assisted as conductor of Societat Coral Catalunya Nova. In 1909 he founded and directed Nova Catalònia and Germinal choirs. It was with these choirs that he premiered his first compositions and arrangements of Catalan melodies. During the first decades of the century, he worked on stage music for the Teatre Líric and for the seasonal Graner shows. He also composed sardanas, arrangements of melodies and short chamber music pieces.
